Our roots are planted firmly in the American Crafts Movement. In the 70's and 80's, Ken made his living as a furniture maker and Bettsie made hers as a fiber and batik artist. It seemed only natural that our next adventure would be to open a store!
15 STEPS has celebrated American Crafts since 1982, offering a diverse and carefully curated collection of jewelry, ceramics, glass, wood, metal, fiber and art for the wall – all of it made by talented local and national artists.
On opening night, over three decades ago, Ken made the comment, “We just married Ithaca!” That pretty much sums up what it means to run a small business – a love affair with the community that supports you… at least that’s how we feel about it.

So what lies ahead? What will we do in the upcoming years? Ken and I will continue our commitment to search for American made products that display quality, imagination and value. We will strive to delight you. We will be here, in person, so you can stop in and say hello. We will do our very best to wear the many “hats” that small business owners don every day with good grace and aplomb. We will continue to give our support and service to this community because this community has given both of us so very much.
Here at 15 STEPS our goals are simple:
We will strive to make a living in an ethical way.
We will always sell great products at a fair price.
We will support American artists and we will tell their stories.
We will connect with and support our community.
We will do good business and do good at the same time.
Community Connections/Our Philanthropy
We are proud to give back to our community by serving on government and not for profit boards and committees.
Our philanthropy is focused on our three “adopted” not-for-profits – Hospicare, the SPCA, and the Ithaca Health Alliance/Ithaca Free Clinic.
In addition, we donate throughout the year to many area not-for-profits for their fundraising events.
